Getting started

What is Intentt?

Intentt is an all-in-one habit tracker, task manager and focus timer. It's built around a simple idea: small intentions, repeated daily, become who you are.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no login, and no cloud. Open the app and start — everything is stored on your device.

Does it work offline?

Yes, completely. Intentt never needs an internet connection to work. (The only time it goes online is for a Google Play purchase or a Play Store rating, both handled by Google.)

Habits & streaks

What habit schedules can I create?

Daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or fully custom — for example "3 times a week", "2 times a month", or "every 10 days". Pick whatever matches how you actually live.

What is a "measurable" habit?

A habit tracked with a number instead of a simple tick — 20 minutes of meditation, 8 glasses of water, 30 pages read. Set a target and choose whether you want to hit at least that number (e.g. minutes read) or at most (e.g. cigarettes). Your daily values show up in the grid and in your insights.

How do streaks work?

A streak counts consecutive completions of a habit. Your current streak is your run right now; your longest streak is your best ever. Miss a scheduled day and the current streak resets — unless you're in Holiday Mode.

What is Holiday Mode?

Going away? In Settings → Holiday Mode (a Pro feature) you set a date range. During those dates your habit streaks are frozen — a missed day won't reset your progress — and habit reminders are paused. Your streak picks up right where it left off when you're back. Task reminders keep firing.

What do the symbols in the habit grid mean?

Each habit row shows one cell per day. Here's the whole language:

SymbolMeaning
✓ Done — you completed the habit that day. This is what builds your streak.
✗ Missed — you marked the day as not done. A miss breaks the current streak (unless the day falls inside Holiday Mode).
? Due — the habit was scheduled for that day and hasn't been logged yet. It's a nudge, not a failure. This marker only appears if you switch on Settings → Show due-day markers.
– Nothing logged — either the habit wasn't scheduled that day, or the day is simply blank.
34 A number — for measurable habits, the value you logged that day (34 minutes, 8 glasses, and so on) instead of a tick.

Tap any day to change it. Tapping cycles through: nothing → Done → Missed → nothing. For measurable habits, tapping lets you type the value.

Can I edit a past day?

Yes. Open the habit's grid (or its Insights) and tap any day to change it. Forgot to log yesterday? Just tap it.

Tasks

What can a task have?

A priority (High / Medium / Low), a category, a due date, a reminder, notes, and subtasks to break bigger work into steps.

What are subtasks?

Subtasks break a bigger task into steps, so "Plan the trip" becomes a checklist instead of one intimidating line.

Can I turn something from another app into a task?

Yes. Select text anywhere on your phone, tap Share, and choose Intentt — it becomes a pre-filled new task.

What's the calendar strip at the top?

It shows your week at a glance, with a dot on days that have something due. Tap any date to see just that day's tasks and habits.

Focus timer

How does the focus timer work?

It's a Pomodoro-style timer: a focus block, then a break, repeating. Choose Classic (25/5), Short (15/3), or set your own Custom lengths.

What is Focus Mode?

A toggle that silences notifications while you focus (priority calls still come through), and restores your normal settings the moment you stop. It needs Do Not Disturb access, which Android will ask you to grant once.

What are focus sounds?

Optional ambient audio — Rain, Wind, Static or Deep — that loops while you focus, to mask distractions. It plays only during focus blocks and pauses on breaks.

Can I link a session to a task or habit?

Yes — start a focus session from a task or habit (the ▶ button) and the time is attributed to it, so your insights show where your time actually went.

Reminders & notifications

My reminders aren't showing up — how do I fix it?

This is almost always your phone's battery saver stopping the app in the background, not a bug in Intentt. Android manufacturers are aggressive about this. Fix it once and it stays fixed:

1. Allow notifications — Settings → Apps → Intentt → Notifications → allow.

2. Turn off battery optimisation — Settings → Apps → Intentt → Battery → choose Unrestricted / Don't optimise.

3. Enable Auto-start (this is the big one on Xiaomi/Redmi/POCO, Realme, OPPO, vivo, OnePlus) — find "Auto-start", "Autolaunch" or "Startup manager" in your phone's settings or Security app and enable it for Intentt. Without this, your phone can block reminders after a reboot.

4. Lock the app in Recents — open Recent apps, and lock/pin Intentt so the system won't kill it.

Exact menu names vary by phone brand and Android version — search your Settings for "auto-start" or "battery" if you can't find them.

My reminders arrive late (Android 14, 15 or 16)

Newer Android versions do not grant the "Alarms & reminders" permission automatically. Without it, Android is allowed to batch and delay your reminders — often by several minutes, and while your phone is idle overnight it can be much longer. Nothing is broken; the reminders just stop being punctual.

The one-tap fix: open Intentt → Settings. If you see "Exact reminders are off", tap Turn on — it takes you straight to the right system screen. Switch on Allow setting alarms and reminders and you're done.

To find it manually: Settings → Apps → Intentt → Alarms & reminders (on some phones: Settings → Apps → Special app access → Alarms & reminders → Intentt).

If Intentt's Settings screen doesn't show that message, the permission is already granted — nothing to do. (Android 12 and 13 grant it automatically.)

Why does Intentt need "Alarms & reminders" at all?

So a reminder fires at the exact minute you set it for. It's used only to schedule the reminders you create — nothing else.

When does a task reminder go off?

Once — on the task's due date, at the time you set. It does not repeat.

If the task is still open the next day, you get a single follow-up notification titled "Still pending", with three buttons:

There is only ever one follow-up. Dismiss it and Intentt stays quiet.

Habit reminders work differently: they follow the habit's own schedule — daily, weekly, "3 times a week", and so on — so they keep arriving as long as the habit is scheduled.

Why does a reminder need a due date?

Because the reminder rings on the due date — a time by itself has no day to ring on. If you set a reminder time on a task with no due date, Intentt fills one in for you: today if that time hasn't passed yet, otherwise tomorrow. Change it like any other due date. If a reminder can't ring as things stand, the task screen tells you so underneath the time.

I finished a task early — will it still remind me?

No. Completing a task cancels its reminder and its next-day follow-up, whether you tick it off in the app or from the notification itself. Un-tick it later and the reminder comes back. The same goes for habits: once you've logged a habit for the period, its reminder won't nag you again for it.

Can I make reminders stay until I act on them?

Yes — Settings → Notifications → Persistent reminders. They then won't disappear from swiping or "Clear all".

What are alarm-style reminders?

A normal reminder arrives as a notification and waits quietly. An alarm-style reminder behaves like an alarm clock instead: it rings continuously, vibrates, and opens a full-screen page over your lock screen with Done, Snooze and Dismiss buttons. It keeps ringing until you act on it, or for one minute if you don't.

They're for the handful of things you genuinely cannot miss — medication, picking someone up, a call you can't be late for. Everything else is better as a normal reminder.

They're off by default. Turn them on in Settings → Notifications → Alarm-style reminders.

My alarm rings but doesn't open over the lock screen

Your phone is blocking it. This is a manufacturer restriction, not a bug in Intentt — several Android skins refuse to let any app open a screen over the lock screen until you allow it specifically, and it's switched off by default.

The one-tap fix: open Intentt → Settings. If you see "Alarm screen was blocked", tap Fix — it takes you straight to the right system screen. Turn on Show on Lock screen and you're done.

To find it manually — Settings → Apps → Manage apps → Intentt → Other permissions → Show on Lock screen. The wording varies by manufacturer; on some phones it sits under "Display over other apps" or "Special app access".

Intentt tells you when this happens: you'll get a notification saying the alarm couldn't open, and a red dot appears on the Settings icon until it's fixed. Once an alarm successfully takes over the screen, the warning disappears on its own and won't come back.

Until you allow it, the reminder still rings and still shows a notification — you just don't get the full-screen page.

Why do I see two notifications when an alarm rings?

That's expected. One is the reminder itself, with its Done, Snooze and Missed buttons — it stays in your notifications afterwards so you can still act on it. The other says Alarm ringing and only exists while the sound is playing; it disappears the moment you dismiss or act on the alarm. Tapping either one opens the alarm screen.

Will an alarm-style reminder wake my phone at night?

Yes — that's the point of it. It turns the screen on, rings at alarm volume and ignores silent mode, exactly as a clock alarm does. If that's more than you want for a particular reminder, use a normal reminder instead, or use Holiday Mode to pause habit reminders while you're away.

An unanswered alarm stops itself after one minute so it can't ring indefinitely, and the notification is left behind so you can see what you slept through.

Does "Dismiss" delete the reminder?

No. Dismiss only stops the noise — the reminder stays in your notifications with its buttons, so you can still mark it done later. Use Done (or Missed, for habits) when you've actually dealt with it.

For a task, dismissing doesn't cancel the one next-day follow-up either. If you want no further reminders at all, use Stop reminding on that follow-up.

What is the daily summary ("Today at a glance")?

Once a day, Intentt sends you a single notification titled "Today at a glance" telling you what's actually on your plate — for example "2 tasks and 3 habits to tackle today." Tapping it opens that day's view, so you can see and tick everything off in one place instead of hunting through the app.

It counts tasks due today that aren't finished, plus habits scheduled for today that you haven't logged yet. Because it's based on what's still outstanding, the count shrinks as you get things done.

There's a matching Weekly review in the same settings section: an end-of-week summary of how the week went, which opens your insights.

Intentt Pro

What's included in the free version?

Everything the app does is available for free — unlimited tasks and subtasks, the focus timer, reminders, streaks and your data export. The only thing the free version limits is how many habits you can actively track:

Which habits are active depends on the order you created them — your first five stay active. If you'd rather a different habit be active, delete one of the first five and the next one takes its place.

What do I get with Pro?

Unlimited habits — every habit fully active, nothing read-only — plus premium themes, advanced insights (trends, rankings, best days, focus breakdowns), the custom focus-timer preset, and Holiday Mode.

Is Pro a subscription?

No. Intentt Pro is a one-time purchase. Buy it once, keep it.

I bought Pro but it's not showing / I changed phones

Go to Settings → Premium → Restore purchase. As long as you're signed into the same Google account that made the purchase, Pro will come back. Make sure you're online.

How do refunds work?

Purchases are handled by Google Play, so refunds follow the Google Play refund policy.

Your data, backup & privacy

Where is my data stored?

Only on your device. Intentt collects nothing, sends nothing, and has no servers. See the Privacy Policy.

How do I back up or move to a new phone?

Settings → Backup → Export writes a backup file wherever you choose (Drive, Downloads, etc.). You'll be offered the chance to protect it with a password first — see below. On the new phone, install Intentt and use Restore and pick that file.

Restoring replaces all current tasks and habits in the app — so export first if you have data you want to keep.

Can I password-protect my backup?

Yes. When you tap Export, Intentt asks "Protect this backup?" — type a password and choose Encrypt & export, or choose Skip to save a plain file exactly as before. Encrypted backups are saved as .intentt files, plain ones as .db.

This is worth doing if the backup is going somewhere other than your own phone — a cloud drive, a shared computer, or a chat message. A plain backup is an ordinary database file: anything that can read the folder it sits in can read your tasks and habits. An encrypted one is unreadable without the password.

Restoring works the same either way — pick the file and Intentt works out which kind it is. If it's encrypted you'll be asked for the password, and if you get it wrong nothing on your phone changes, so you can simply try again.

There is no way to recover a forgotten password. It is never stored anywhere and never leaves your device, so a backup whose password is lost cannot be opened — not by you, and not by us. Keep it somewhere safe, such as a password manager.

Encryption is AES-256-GCM, with the key derived from your password using PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 (600,000 iterations) and a fresh random salt for every export. The file also carries a tamper check, so a corrupted or edited backup is refused rather than half-restored. Backups made before this feature existed still restore normally.

How do I delete my data?

Delete individual items in the app, or uninstall Intentt to remove everything from your device. Since nothing is stored on any server, there's nothing left behind.
